Recording

CanEasy records bus communication on all buses. A flashing red LED in the tree view indicates when the recording process is active. Recording setting can be configured in the settings.

CanEasy can also be used without starting a recording. Because CanEasy pulls all data for core applications like trace windows or signal plots from the recording, bus communication cannot be analyzed without an active recording.

CanEasy can only use a single recording that will be overwritten on each simulation start. Recording data is stored in a circular buffer. Maximum number and size of buffer files can be selected in the settings.

If no recording directory is defined prior to starting the recording, a temporary recording is created. This file can later be renamed and saved in a specified location using the context menu entry “Save recording as…”. The context menu entry also displays the current file path (if defined).

Hinweis Note:
CanEasy uses a compressed format to store recorded data. This enables recording complete bus communication over longer time periods without any storage problems. Duration of recording is theoretically only limited by storage device capacity. Additionally, recordings can be stored using the ASCII format.

CanEasy only analyzes data from one existing recording file. Therefore, an adequately large recording file size should be defined (see settings).

Function

Show file in explorer

This menu item is displayed only if a previous recording exists. Clicking on this item opens an Explorer window showing the file’s location.

New

Creates a new recording. The new recording file’s location can be selected.

Load

Loads a previously stored recording. If a recording is loaded, the internal recording is replaced. A loaded recording can be analyzed using the core applications the same way as during actual simulation.

In addition to the CanEasy log files (.celog), recordings in other formats (like ASC) can be imported. For an exact description, please see conversion of an ASCII-log file.

Using multiselection in the file open dialog, allows to import multiple records at once.

Save as…

Saves the current recording file in a new location. The recording can be saved as CanEasy log file (.celog) or as ASCII file (.asc)

To save a complete circular buffer, please select the menu entry “Current recording: <file>” to open an Explorer window and copy the recording files manually.

Reset/Restart

Resets the recording. All recorded data is discarded.

Close

Closes the current recording.

Autostart

If this item is checked, bus traffic is automatically recorded whenever a simulation is started.

If this item is unchecked, a started simulation is not recorded automatically.

Analyze cycle time at runtime

Creates a variable for every message identifier which includes statistic information about the cycle time during recording.

Analyze protocols

If you load some external file (ASC) you can use this to add protocol information (like UDS) to the recording.
